Located in the southwestern region of Los Angeles County is the city of Inglewood. This city was incorporated on February 14, 1908. It was first established in 1888 and had 110,654 people living in there in 2016. It has an elevation of 131 feet, 0.03 square miles of water area and 9.07 square miles of land area.
The first residents of Inglewood were indigenous people who lived beside the natural springs that are located in what is now a local park. After these local tribes, settlers came to the area in 1781. These people raised cattle and drove them to graze on what is now Inglewood. In 1822, a hut was built for the people herding cattle. Later on, a proper three-story adobe house was constructed in the area. This historic structure no longer exists. It was constructed on what is now a baseball field in a local park.
There is one adobe structure that is still around. This serves as the main building of the historical society of the Centinela Valley. This house was first built in 1834 and now houses a museum operated by the society. It is one of the 43 remaining historic adobe structures in the Los Angeles County. This house was the center of a land grant that encompassed 25,000 acres.
The city has a total area of 9.1 square miles, and its downtown district is just 4.15 miles from an international airport. Inglewood is also part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The census at that time revealed that the city was home to only 109,673 people. In 2016, the number increased by 0.9 percent. Inglewood had 110,654 residents.
The students in Inglewood are served by a local school district. The city has two high schools and one alternative high school. Some students, however, go to schools operated by Los Angeles' school district. Inglewood's high school district opened in 1905. There are several public charter schools in the area, as well as two private schools.
