Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in Downey, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.
Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in Downey is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.
The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.
We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.
A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.
If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.

Downey, CA Tidbits
The city of Downey is located in Los Angeles County, California and it has more than a hundred thousand residents. Downey had around 80,000 residents during its early days as an incorporated city. In 2010, the population had grown to 111,772 people.
The 2016 survey reported that the city already had 113,267 locals. Downey is considered a Gateway City and its claim to fame is that it was the birthplace of the Apollo Space Program, which was a major factor in the rapid increase of the city's population.
The city's first inhabitants were the Tongva, a Native American people, before the Spanish explorers found the area. Now, the city has a considerable number of residents with Latin American heritage. Downey also has a very large population of residents with Cuban origins.
Its Puerto Rican community is just as big. Because of the number of residents, the Downey Unified School District is one of the city's major employers. A few schools are served by the Montebello Unified School District. The city has 17 public elementary and middle schools and only three public high schools.
Most people don't know that library service has been in Downey, California for more than a century. The commitment that the community of Downey has to literacy and reading is long-standing and well-rooted in the city's history. Some seven women residents of the community established a social club in 1898.
One of their reasons for meeting was to establish a public library, which opened in 1901. In 1915, when the Los Angeles County Library System opened a library branch in Downey, there were 215 registered borrowers were able to choose from a collection of some 330 book titles.
The branch relocated many time until it finally found its last home at the County Civic Center, which is located on the corner of La Reina Avenue and Third Street. The branch had some 15,000 volumes of books with 123,000 in circulation. In 1957, there were already some 14,000 residents that had registered for library cards. The city had gained a lot of residents after its incorporation and after the opening of the library.
The city of Downey was incorporated in 1956. Some two years later, the City Council voted to accept responsibility for providing Downey with its own library and to withdraw from the county library system. A new library building to house some 70,000 volumes of books was authorized almost immediately. However, the original temporary library service only contained modest collections that were obtained from a bookstore.
In the meantime, the city bought the Downey Elementary School property and transformed it into a police station and city hall. The library was relocated into the former cafeteria building in the school. In 1958, the library finally opened its doors. It offered approximately 5,000 books and a full-time staff of six. The collection increased to some 24,000 books in the next 18 months. A new library building that contained nearly some 16,000 square feet was under construction.
In 1985, a literacy program was established. There were many community members who volunteered their time teaching reading skills to adults. Currently, the library program continues to the assist residents with the essential skills necessary to improve their lives.
