Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in La Mesa, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.
Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in La Mesa is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.
The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.
We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.
A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.
If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.

La Mesa, CA Tidbits
Just nine miles from the downtown area of the city of San Diego, La Mesa stands as the "Jewel of the Hills". It was once part of the land called "San Diego de Alcala", which was inhabited by many Spanish explorers. The city's name is Spanish for "the table" or more precisely "the plateau", which refers to its geographical landscape.
The city was founded in 1869, but it was only incorporated in 1912. This was brought on by the subdivision of 200 acres of land into housing developments and neighborhoods during the early 1900s. In 1939, La Mesa's residents constructed its first post office on the corner of La Mesa Boulevard and 4th Street. The building still stands today and is one of the city's designated historical landmarks.
The city has nine square miles of land and its 2014 population was about 58,769 residents. The median household income was $60,390 during the 2015 survey. Despite its late incorporation, the city of La Mesa has had a long history. Many of its earliest structures can still be seen today, like the Bengston House and Harry Park House, among others.
There are 15 parks in La Mesa, with a varying number of facilities and play features. The only one with a pool is on McArthur Park, while horseshoe pits can only be found on Harry Griffen, La Mesita, and Vista La Mesa Parks. As part of the city's efforts to be more eco-friendly, several rules have been enacted. No one is allowed to smoke or camp overnight at the parks. Picnic areas for large gatherings are available only at certain parks.
La Mesa is also home to a set of public stairways. It is one of the few cities in San Diego County to have such a system. These concrete staircases were installed years ago to help alleviate foot traffic. These staircases cross to other neighborhoods and over various avenues and streets. There are more than 500 steps all in all, yet residents are not daunted by the number as the public stairway system has become a sustainable move in decreasing the city's carbon footprint and helping locals stay healthy.
Another prominent stairway in the city is called the "Walkway of the Stars" in 2003 and features star-shaped markers with the names of the 10,000 La Mesa residents who contributed a lot of hours and effort doing volunteer services. Once a walkway, it is now a park located between Allison Avenue and La Mesa Boulevard.
After the city's incorporation, the local council decided to acknowledge and commemorate the residents whose business or works contributed greatly to La Mesa's growth. The city council and other members of the local government unit created the La Mesa Walk of Fame. The awardees get a plaque with their name on it on the sidewalk of La Mesa Boulevard in the La Mesa Village.
There are two districts that serve the schools in La Mesa, namely the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District and the Grossmont Union High School District. The former manages the city's elementary and middle school while the latter serves just certain schools like the Helix High School, Grossmont High School, Gateway Community Day, and Gateway West Community Day.
