Carefree, AZ Tidbits
The town of Carefree is located in Maricopa County, Arizona. During the 2010 census, the town had a population of only 3,363 residents. The town began in the mid-1950s. It was developed by a housing development, which later gave its name to the new community.
From 1959 to 1984, the town's economy was boosted by the new residences and businesses being built in the area. Carefree was the first place in Arizona to feature a fly-in residential structure, which became a focal point of the community since the 1950s until today.
There are many scenic nature trails along Carefree's mountains and valleys. There are 15 trails along the city's creeks. The trails range from 1.3 miles to 6.9 miles all over the town. Lake Pleasant and a local reservoir at the nearby national park are usual places where locals go for picnics.
Lake Pleasant is surrounded by its own regional park, which offers a 4-lane boat ramp and a 10-lane one. Both launching ramps have restrooms and paved parking lots for visitors. There are 12 species of fish in the lake like the striped bass, white crappie, white bass, largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, bigmouth buffalo fish, flathead catfish, green sunfish, channel catfish, tilapia, and red-ear sunfish.
Many of the park's visitors go on tubes and rafts and swim to several coves in the area. The lake is a man-made one and it has fluctuating landscapes that go from four feet to nine feet in one minute. The lake has been considered one of the best places to go scuba diving, what with so many rock walls, canyons, and other underwater structures.
The lake is 10,000 acres full of surface water and can be as deep as 260 feet so there's a lot of room to dive in and explore. The park around the lake also has 148 sites for camping. There are several covered ramadas and picnic tables. The town of Carefree has a total land area of 8.81 square miles and an elevation of 2,402 feet. In 1980, the town had 964 residents. It increased by 71.9 percent in 1990. In 2000, there was a 76.6 percent increase and the town had 2,927 residents. The most recent survey identified 3,724 people living in Carefree, Arizona in 2016.
Its median age is 66.5 years old and its median household income is $93,014. Although it's a 0.12 percent decrease from its previous figure, the median household income for Carefree is still more than Maricopa County, the state of Arizona, and the United States of America. There are 1,862 households in town and the ones with the largest income take home around $75,000 to $100,000.
There were 1,159 employed residents in Carefee. Most of them had management positions, account for 26.9 percent of the working locals. Next, over 12.9 percent of the employed people in Carefree work in arts and recreation, followed by 10.6 percent who work in health services.
In 2014, the median property value of Carefree was $704,200. This decreased by 4.16 percent in 2015 when the town only had a value of $674,900. However, this figure is still 3.47 times higher than the median property value of the nation, which is at $194,500.
