New River is an unincorporated community in Maricopa County, Arizona. The town began in the 1800s when it was founded by in 1868 as a stagecoach station. It was named after a stream that was part of the Agua Fria River system called "New River". During the 2010 census, New River had only 14,952 residents. Now, though, it has 15,289 people. It has a total area of 56.10 square miles and an elevation of 2,014 feet.
The small town is bordered by several cities and landscapes like a national forest, Cave Creek, Phoenix, and Anthem. Its median age is 49 years old and it has 5,907 households. In 2015, the town had 8,386 employed residents. This was a 1.96 percent increase from the number during the previous year.
