Located within the Maricopa County of Arizona, El Mirage is home to more than 31,000 residents. Along El Mirage is a river that's 120 miles long, which generally flows from the east-northeast of the city of Prescott. It's called the Agua Fria River, which flows through the Agua Fria National Monument and through Black Canyon to Lake Pleasant.
The city of El Mirage has long been considered the gateway to the northwest valley of the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area. The city's origins began with a small and humble town whose primary means of livelihood was farming and agriculture. Now, that town is a city with thousands of locals and with a diverse businesses and industries. El Mirage is part of the a foreign trade zone, and it is considered a major reason for the city and county's economic development.
El Mirage also owes its booming population to the many businesses that have been established in the area. The city now plays host to big companies and retail stores that bring in more income and job opportunities for the residents. The community in El Mirage is warm and friendly and the local government does its best to accommodate the residents' needs. In fact, the city officials are always focused on providing the locals with recreational parks and the best facilities and equipment for public safety and security.
New buildings and tools for the fire station, police station, retreat centers, and the city hall have all been established after the residents asked for new and better facilities to move the city forward and to make faster economic progress. The population grew and many more people put up businesses like new restaurants and stores. Many residents settle in El Mirage, coming from other cities in the Phoenix metropolitan area, because of the city's small-town feel and affordable housing. There are also a lot of young people living in the area to start their own businesses or work in the new startups and booming industries.
Aside from locals who want to seek jobs in El Mirage, there are also many visitors who visit the city for its historical importance. An ancient Native American culture, inhabited most of Arizona in prehistoric times. Many of their sites were built in where the city of El Mirage is now located. This makes the city a valuable source of historical research and information. A lot of scholars, scientists, and students travel to El Mirage to learn more about them, who were thought to have come from Mexico and journeyed to where Arizona is now around 300 BC. They were known as the best irrigation farmers in the southwest region.
These people were also known as canal builders because of their irrigation system using only stone instruments. They were considerably advanced and, in fact, traces and ruins of many of their settlements and old residential structures can still be seen today. Their inventions and irrigation system were so well done that in 1867, the city of El Mirage was still able to make use of their canals by retrenching them. They were used for farming all over the county. They lasted long and it was only in the 20th century that the county decided to design and implement federal irrigation projects that would make farming easier and give more constant and reliable results.
During the 1930s, El Mirage's population grew when many farmers settled in the area near the Agua Fria River. These were migrant farm workers. These people were the first founders and town settlers in what is now El Mirage where they worked on the irrigation canals and farmed on the lands. They harvested the first crops and started their own town, El Mirage, in 1937. The place was eventually incorporated in 1951. It was just a simple farming community then, but now it is a rapidly growing area of commerce and business.
