Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in Missouri City, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.
Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in Missouri City is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.
The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.
We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.
A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.
If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.
Missouri City, TX Tidbits
Missouri City is a place in Texas, with most of its neighborhoods in the Fort Bend County and others in Harris County. During the 2010 census, the city had 67,358 residents, but in 2015, the population was estimated to be 74,139 people. Aside from the job opportunities, residential accommodations, parks, recreation centers, and entertainment complexes, Missouri City's best selling point is that its area played a significant part in the history of Texas.
The Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway established a railway through the Houston to Stanford. It was the first of its kind in Texas and, in 1883, three decades after it first came to the state, it connected lines with the railway coming from the east. This completed the historic Sunset Route that ran from Los Angeles to New Orleans.
In 1890, some businessmen purchased four square miles of land that was directly part of the route of the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway. They advertised their land in St. Louis, Missouri. Years later, 80 acres of land were purchased near the area. This place was called "Missouri City".
The first residents of the area, however, didn't come from Missouri. They came from other cities in Texas like Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington. The community was registered in 1894, and business was booming, especially since the railroad passed through town. This made it easier for new residents to arrive, for business investors to visit the area, and for merchants to sell their wares.
The young town already had several establishments running like the railroad depot, smithy, a general store, and the post office. Soon, other industries and plants operated in the area. In the late 1910s, oil was discovered four miles south of Missouri City, and a salt mine was subsequently opened in the same vicinity.
A few years later, natural gas was discovered in the same area. In fact, Missouri City was the first town in the county to use natural gas. This endeared the community to people from other cities who wanted better livelihood opportunities.
When Missouri City's neighboring cities grew large, many of its residents started finding work there. A lot of the city's residents began commuting to their jobs in Houston. The young city started to become a bedroom community for locals who worked in nearby cities and towns. This was in the 1950s when Houston was growing. This also brought out the residents' fear that Missouri City might be annexed to the bigger city. The town leaders quickly assembled their own government so that they could propose Missouri City's incorporation, which finally happened in 1956.
Through the years, the city saw a dramatic economic growth. In the 1980s, several African American families moved to the area. Later, in 2000, Black Entertainment Television considered Missouri City a model community for middle-class African Americans families. There have also been recent upscale renovations in the area and its parks and recreation department is considered by Texas to be world class. It manages more than 300 acres across over 20 parks in Missouri City.
One of the city's most historic landmarks is its historical park, which is called the Freedom Tree Park on 4219 Freedom Tree Drive. The park is a simple plot of land, without many facilities or play area. However, it holds historical significance for the residents, especially the African American families. The park was named after the iconic Freedom Tree, a live oak that once stood in a ranch during the late 18th to early 19th centuries.
The current Missouri City has moved on from the farming industry, with most of its residents working management jobs in business sectors. Many of Missouri City's locals are also employed in the education and healthcare industries.
