Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in Deer Park, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.
Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in Deer Park is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.
The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.
We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.
A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.
If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.
Deer Park, TX Tidbits
In 1892, the state of Texas still had many unexplored areas. The plan for a new town site was started during this time and, after a year several structures were built, including a hotel and a post office. This coincided with the opening of a railroad by the Galveston, Harrisburg, and San Antonio Railway Company.
The new town was named "Deer Park" after the large number of deer that roamed the area. The community flourished in 1896 and had a hotel, a general merchandise store, and around 40 residents. New people from the North moved in to live in the new town. To accommodate the growing number of residents, the town reserved rights to establish their water and electricity supply, as well as street cars, and telephone poles. Several streets were also paved and named, but the only remaining original street today in Deer Park is Luella.
The city's post office halted operations in 1919, but it was re-established in 1930. Unfortunately, the town had its share of ups and downs. During the 1920s, it had lost some residents because of the lack of work and farming opportunities. At that time, there were only four residential structures left, one school house, and an old hotel.
However, during the last few years of that decade, the introduction of an oil company and other refineries revitalized the town. With promise of work and more opportunities for growth, Deer Park was able to attract new residents. By the 1930s, the town already had around a hundred people and, by the 1940s, Deer Park was home to many refineries and plants, some of which would be known for producing chemicals and manufacturing equipment.
Deer Park was eventually incorporated in 1938. The city had come a long way from its humble beginnings in the late 19th century. From a population of only 40 people, Deer Park had 32,010 residents during the 2010 census.
The city is one of the places that are considered the "Birthplace of Texas" and it has an iconic heritage trail, which can be found in the San Jacinto Texas Historic District, an effort by 16 communities in the East Harris County area to revitalize and preserve historical landmarks and heritage sites. Since Deer Park is in Harris County, it is part of the San Jacinto Texas Historic District and has contributed to preserving its historic structures.
The district has many historic structures, natural parks, and other cultural attractions like the 1,200-acre historic site in San Jacinto, which is just a few minutes from Downtown Houston. This heritage site has markers on the ground that point to the location of the Texan and Mexican camps during the 1800s.
The San Jacinto Monument and Museum of History are two prominent structures that attract millions of visitors every year. The latter houses artifacts, photos, and memorabilia from societies and people of the early 19th century who contributed to the city's development.
The Houston Maritime Museum is just a few minutes away from the city. The establishment houses more than 150 model ships, ranging from the 15th century vessels to modern naval ones. The Age of Exploration from the 1400s to the 1600s was an exciting time for shipbuilders, sailors, merchants, and even pirates. The museum has a lot of ships that replicate the famous 17th century ships used by European explorers and colonists.
Another historic area is the Isaac Batterson Historical Marker. The marker tells the story of the Isaac Batterson House whose floors were used by soldiers to make rafts so that they could cross the Buffalo Bayou to join the campaign for Texas' independence in San Jacinto, even though more than 200 of their wounded soldiers had to remain at the house.
