Anna, TX Tidbits
Anna is a small city located in Collin County in the state of Texas. At the time of the 2010 United States census, this city had a population of just over 8,000. Since then, the population has been estimated in excess of 10,500.
A pioneer, who arrived in the area in 1867, built the first home and store in the community. The railway passed through the area in 1873, and the town was platted in 1883 with a population of 20 people, two stores and a gristmill. A post office also opened later that year. Population growth was quick in the following years, and by 1890, the town had a population of between 100 and 200 people. The town was incorporated in 1913.
Today, Anna has a total area of just over 14 square miles and is located entirely within Collin County. U.S. Route 75 passes through the west of the city. Anna lies to the northeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, as well as northeast of Plano, Frisco and McKinney. Weston borders the city to the west, Melissa to the south, Altoga to the southeast, Blue Ridge to the east, Westminster to the northeast and Van Alstyne to the north.
Like all of the surrounding area, Anna has a humid, subtropical climate characterized by hot, humid summers and cool, mild winters. Temperatures average in the high 90s in June, July and August, and then drop to a low 30 degrees in December and January. Precipitation is common all year round, but snow is rare.
As of the 2010 United States census, the town boasted 8,249 people and 2,576 households. The city's diverse ethic backgrounds are 78.4% Caucasian, 7.7% African American, 20.9% Latino or Hispanic, and 0.8% Asian.
Of the 2,576 total households, nearly half had children under the age of 18 living in them, and nearly two thirds were married couples. The average household size in Anna, at the time, was 3.15, and the average family size was 3.48. The population was fairly well spread out with over a third of its residents aged younger than 18 years, 13.7% were between the ages of 20 to 29, 27% were aged 30 to 44, 16% were aged 45 to 64 and just over 5% were aged 65 or older. The median age of Anna was 30 years, which is slightly less than the national average.
Residents of Anna were relatively well off at the time of the last census with a median household income of $58,730 and a median family income of $59,899. The city had a per capita income of $23,475. Just 12% of the population was living below the poverty line according to the last report.
