Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in Downey, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.
Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in Downey is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.
The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.
We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.
A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.
If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.

Downey, CA Tidbits
Downey is a city that is considered one of the Gateway Cities of Southeast Los Angeles County. It is just 12 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The city is known to be the birthplace of the country's third human spaceflight program. It is also the location of the world's oldest, and still functional, fast food restaurant. It was incorporated on December 17, 1956, and had 113,267 residents during the 2016 survey. Downey, California has an elevation of 118 feet.
Before the arrival of the settlers, the place used to be inhabited by local ethnic groups. The closest settlement area was just north and northeast of what is now called the city of Downey. On September 8, 1771, the explorers founded their settlement near these concentrations of the local people. However, they evacuated the area after five years. They decide to move their settlement to the current location in the city of San Gabriel.
In 1784, a Spanish governor gave the largest of the land allocations to a former subordinate. The 300,000-acre land covered the area from the Santa Ana River down to the Old San Gabriel River. The ranch remained intact until, in 1833, when his heirs appealed to subdivide the property. The northwestern portion of the original land grant included the Downey-Norwalk area. This 21,000-acre partition of land was itself a massive ranch because it consisted of the old farmhouse and homestead, which was the point of attraction for social events back then. Dairy was Downey's major industry. In fact, there were around seven hundred dairymen, who had dairy herds from thirty to two thousand head. Their products would value over a million dollars every month.
Some of Downey's immigrants came from Ireland. Downey was even founded by and named after a governor of California who was originally from Ireland. In 1865, the city's founder started a modern subdivision project with the land he gained between the Rio Hondo and the San Gabriel River. He was confident that oranges would blossom in Southern California, so he brought several varieties of citrus, and true enough, oranges became one of California's heftiest cash crops. The scale even got bigger when a railroad company arrived in 1873 and built convenient routes for easier transportation of these famous oranges.
By 1935, Downey was popularly known as the "orange-grove town." Farmers in the area also grew crops like grain, corn, and castor beans. Downey was incorporated as a city in 1956, and after almost a decade, the city adopted a charter form of government. Farms were soon replaced with factories and suburban homes.
In the 1960s, the busiest intersections in California were near the heart of Downey. Route 19 and Route 42 became major roadways connecting to other California cities of Pasadena and San Diego respectively. According to a 2010 census bureau report, Downey has a total land area of 12.4 square miles. It was also stated in the report that the city had a population of 111,772 residents with a population density of 8,893 people per square mile.
