Oceanside is a seaside oasis of magnificent beaches. It has 6 miles of white sand beach, a colorful and unusual harbor village, and wooden pier built in 1888. Oceanside has a well-preserved historic district, relaxed atmosphere, and the climate is ideal to enjoying outdoor activities.
The city was first inhabited by indigenous people. The first explorers came in 1769. This used to be the place of a village on the banks of San Luis River. It was during the 19th century that farming and grazing were introduced which changed the landscape of what would be Oceanside. Just like all of California, Oceanside was under Spanish rule, then Mexican rule in 1821, until it became part of the United States in 1848.
Oceanside was incorporated on July 3, 1888 and has an elevation of 66 feet. It has a water area of 0.92 square miles and a land area of 41.25 square miles, bringing the total to 42.18 square miles. In 1900, the city was a small town with a population of 330 people. This increased by 103.9 percent in 1910 with 673 people. In 1930, the city was home to 3,508 people. This was a 202.2 percent increase from the number in 1920. It was in the 1950s, though, that the city had 12,881 people.
The city has an estimated population of 175,464 people during the 2016 estimate. This makes it accessible to a lot of nearby attractions and events. From Oceanside, it is easy to go to various amusement parks and family activities.
