The city of Fontana, California was established in 1913 and is located in San Bernardino County. However, the community didn't really start developing until after the 1940s. As the result of a steel mill that was constructed there, Fontana soon became a regional center.
The city of Fontana had 209,665 residents according to the 2016 report. After it was initially founded, it remained a primarily rural town. It had a major trucking industry along Interstate 10 and State Route 210. It was named "Fontana" because it was close to a water source, the Santa Ana River. The name means "fountain" or "water source" in Italian.
Overlooking Fontana is Mount Jurupa. It is a short trip from the city. Fontana is also home to one of the largest system libraries in San Bernardino County. It was incorporated on June 25, 1952. It has an elevation of 1,237 feet and a land area of 43.02 square miles. During the 2010 census, Fontana had 196,069 residents. This increased by 6.9 percent in 2016 when the city had 209,665 people.
