Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Best Time to Buy a Mattress?

Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in Thousand Oaks, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.

Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in Thousand Oaks is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.

The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.

What is the Best Mattress of 2019?

We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.

How Often Should You Replace Your Pillow?

A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.

If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.

Thousand Oaks, CA Tidbits

Known as the second largest city in Ventura County, Thousand Oaks housed a population of approximately 126,683 residents during the 2010 census. The city got its name from the several oak trees that grow in majority of the land area. However, its early name was "Conejo Mountain Valley" and it was used during the early 1870s.

After the Native American inhabitants and Spanish settlers, the area was also home to several residents who were originally from Norway. In fact, there was a large Norwegian colony in the area from the 1890s to the early 1900s. This settlement occupied over 650 acres of land, which is now located between Moorpark and Olsen Roads. Many of the streets, villages, and neighborhoods in Thousand Oaks were named after the Norwegian families who settled in the area.

Later, in the 1920s, a local contest was held to come up with a new name for the area. One of the suggested names was "Thousand Oaks", which the rest of the residents liked. The name was a simple description of the place, so it caught on and was used for several years while the town was still an unincorporated community. In 1964, most of the residents voted for the town's incorporation with the name "Thousand Oaks".

The city is 35 miles from Downtown Los Angeles and is located at the center of the Conejo Valley. With around 55 square miles for its residents, Thousand Oaks is even bigger than the city of San Francisco. The city is also considered one of the safest cities in the country, which explains the huge number of people deciding to relocate to Thousand Oaks every year. In 2016, the number of residents was estimated at around 128,888.

Just like its neighboring towns, Thousand Oaks used to be inhabited by the Chumash people, a Native American group. There are two Chumash tribes in the town, namely the Sap'wi, translated to "House of the Deer", and the Satwiwa or "The Bluffs". The former's location is now the address of the Chumash Interpretive Center and the latter's former residence is now the location of the Indian Culture Center, which is located at the foot of Mount Boney in Newbury Park.

The city annexed most of Newbury Park from the 1960s to the 70s. There's almost 15,000 acres of open space in Thousand Oaks that offer scenic views of nature. The gardens at Thousand Oaks Boulevard are composed of colorful and rare flowers across a world-class botanical landscape. It includes a fountain and a koi pond right next to a Japanese Pagoda.

Wildwood Park is also located in Thousand Oaks, at the corner of Avenida de los Arboles and Big Sky Drive. This 1,765-acre park was the settlement area of the Chumash Indians for almost 8,000 years until the Spanish explorers came in the early 19th century. The park is well-known for its hiking spots, picnic fields, and cycling trails. It has 14 hiking trails covering nearly 17 miles. From January to June, wildflowers bloom around Wildwood Park. There are also two waterfalls in the vicinity, Little Falls and Paradise Falls.
