Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in South Gate, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.
Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in South Gate is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.
The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.
We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.
A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.
If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.

South Gate, CA Tidbits
The seventh largest city in the Los Angeles County is South Gate, which has 7.4 square miles. It is part of the Gateway Cities and is just minutes away from the city of Los Angeles. It is also known as the "Azalea City" because the azalea is its official flower. Much of South Gate used to be inhabited by the Lugo family, the first permanent settlers in the area.
The family had established itself in the area in the 1770s. They were able to claim over 30,000 acres of land after it was given to them as a land grant by a Spanish king in 1810. This became Rancho San Antonio, but after a hundred years, this soon gave rise to the city of South Gate after the land grant was passed down from generation to generation.
A new adobe ranch house was built on the area in the 1850s and three decades later, raising cattle became the community's primary industry. When the 20th century came, though, the farms and ranches had to give way to housing developments, company buildings, and factories. In the early 1900s, the community welcomed new residents, which resulted in the construction of 125 houses.
The town was called "Southgate Gardens" after the gardens in another California city, and it had around 500 residents in the late 1910s. The town's first school was first established in 1918. Back then, it was known as the Southgate Gardens School and it had only 52 students during its opening term. Now, it is called the State Street School and it is located in the boundaries of South Gate, Huntington Park, and Walnut Park.
The city was later incorporated in 1923 as "South Gate" with a population of 2,500 residents. The city became a successful suburb, with fertile lands for growing gardens and vegetables. More schools, government stations, and businesses were also established during this time. In 1942, a new city hall was constructed on California Avenue. South Gate, like many cities in California, has a large population of residents with Latin American and Hispanic roots.
The city was called "Azalea City" in 2006 as an award for making the azalea flower an important part the lives of the residents. The flowers can be seen throughout the entire city, which has over nine parks. Most of South Gate's parks have playground equipment, picnic shelters, and sports fields. There is an equestrian center on Hollydale Regional Park. The South Gate Park, though, is the biggest one, with 96.8 acres. Its grounds contain an auditorium, a golf course, a swimming pool, a hockey rink, several sports fields, and a skate park.
South Gate has 18 public schools and most of them are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Others are operated by Paramount Unified School District and Downey Unified School District. The city also has charter schools, which were opened in 2010 and 2015. There are also private primary and secondary schools in the area, and its institution for tertiary education is the South Gate Satellite Campus of East Los Angeles College.
