Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Best Time to Buy a Mattress?

Looking for a good mattress sale can be tricky. If you’re looking at brick-and-mortar locations in El Cajon, always ask the sales associate when the sale ends and often the sale runs. If you’re looking online, check to see if the mattress company offers promo codes or referral codes for deeper discounts.

Generally, the best time to buy a mattress in El Cajon is during one of the four major holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Presidents Day.

The Black Friday mattress sale is often one of the best, with most mattress companies offering a few hundred dollars off their mattress plus free pillows or sheets.

What is the Best Mattress of 2019?

We are a little biased but we like the Amerisleep AS3. We were one of the first bed in box companies and we have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable and supportive mattress at an affordable price.

How Often Should You Replace Your Pillow?

A good mattress can only do so much. Finding the best pillow for your neck is just as important. Most people don’t know you should replace your pillow every 2-3 years. Pillows often lose their shape and support faster than a mattress.

If looking for the best pillow, consider investing in a memory foam pillow but look for one that has a ventilated airways or promotes breathability.

El Cajon, CA Tidbits

El Cajon is a city surrounded by mountain ranges with a population estimate of 99,478 people. The city's name, El Cajon, when translated from Spanish, means "the box". The city earned that name since the mountains surrounding it looked like square edges boxing the city in. The city calls itself "The Valley of Opportunity" primarily because of the rise of commercial buildings and business properties in the area.

The Mexican era in the 1820s to the 1840s boosted El Cajon's number of settlers during the time. Because of the land grant systems, thousands of acres were given to people who served the Spanish and then the Mexican governments. One such land grant consists of areas that are now modern cities like Lakeside, Flinn Springs, Bostonia, Santee, and El Cajon.

The land grant Rancho El Cajon was claimed by several entrepreneurs during the 1850s. More than 7,000 acres of land was then developed into farm land and a site for a hotel. This area was first called "Knox's Corner". Around this time, there were 25 families living in the community. After several years, the town name changed to "El Cajon" after the land grant. The succeeding maps manufactured in the 1870s bore a shortened version of the name, just "Cajon", but residents later restored the use of its full name during the early 1900s.

One historical landmark in El Cajon is a house that now serves as a museum. The Olaf Wieghorst Museum and Western Heritage Center displays collections of vintage items and artifacts of 19th century western America. There are exhibits on Native American tribes, the rough and wild lifestyle of the Western cowboys, and several notable El Cajon locals who contributed to the city's economic development.

Another historic house in El Cajon was turned into a heritage center. The Knox House Museum used to be a part of a hotel that was built in 1876. It initially stood as a two-story structure with seven rooms and was used as a temporary residence. Most of the people who lived in the building were miners, drovers, and prospectors who flocked to the town when gold was discovered in the area. The museum now features exhibits from the years 1890s to the early 1900s.

On land there's a popular garden in El Cajon. This botanical center has a two-acre garden of beautiful flowers, orchids on trees, green shrubs, and a solar greenhouse. This garden was intended as a therapeutic space with scenic pathways that enable guests to relax and enjoy the landscape. The garden also has a 1,500-square-foot shade house and a 1,000-square-foot greenhouse, as well as a worm farm, and an organically grown vegetable garden. The center also has a quarter-mile flower-lined trail.

There are more than 20 elementary and middle schools in El Cajon. Most of them are operated by the Cajon Valley Union School District. The seven secondary schools, meanwhile, are served by the Grossmont Union High School District. There are five higher education institutions found in El Cajon, including community colleges like Grossmont College and Cuyamaca College.
