Mattress Sizes Available in the Richmond Area

Twin Size Mattresses

The dimensions of a twin size mattress are 38 inches by 74 inches. A twin mattress is often the first bed a child sleeps on after graduating from their crib. Adults in a small bedroom may find that a twin mattress suits their sleeping needs well enough.

Twin XL Size Mattresses

The dimensions of a twin XL size mattress are 38 inches by 80 inches. Because it’s 6 inches longer than a standard twin mattress, it’s a good fit for people over 6 feet tall. Twin beds can also serve as a guest room mattress suitable for most solo sleepers. Some parents choose a twin XL mattress instead of a standard twin because it provides more room for a child’s growth spurt.

Full Size Mattresses

The dimensions of a full size mattress are 54 inches by 75 inches. The bed is large enough for most single sleepers. While a full size mattress is sometimes called a “double bed,” we cannot recommend a full size mattress to couples. Each half of a full size mattress is as wide as a standard crib mattress, which won’t leave you and your partner with a lot of room.

Queen Size Mattresses

The dimensions of a queen size mattress are 60 inches by 80 inches. A queen mattress accommodates most couples and single sleepers and fits in the majority of bedrooms. These two reasons are likely part of why a queen bed is the most popular mattress size.

King Size Mattresses

The dimensions of a king size mattress are 76 inches by 80 inches. King mattresses fit well in bedrooms that are at least 12 feet by 12 feet. Couples love the personal sleeping space a king size mattress offers, while single sleepers can stretch out and enjoy an expansive bed.

California King Size Mattresses

The dimensions of a California king size mattress are 72 inches by 84 inches. If you’re over 6 feet tall, a California king mattress should provide a comfortable night of sleep.

Split King Size Mattresses

A split king is two mattresses pushed together to form a king size bed, with each half measuring 38 inches by 80 inches. If one partner likes a soft bed and the other prefers a firm sleeping surfacing, this type of mattress lets them split the difference. Split mattresses also move independently on an adjustable base.

What’s the best time to buy a mattress at the Amerisleep Richmond mattress store?

While we offer great prices year-round, we do hold sales on periodic occasions. A few of our big sale days include Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Black Friday. Sometimes our stores offer bed bundles, where you can choose a mattress and bed base at a discounted price.

What’s the most popular mattress at the Amerisleep Richmond mattress store?

Our most popular bed is the AS3 mattress, with a medium feel that suits side sleepers and combination sleepers. You can try our classic memory foam model or the new hybrid model with a springy support. Both are 12 inches thick, though with a slight difference in layers.

The AS3 memory foam mattress has:

3 inches of Bio-Pur® foam
2 inches of Affinity with HIVE® technology
7 inches of Bio-Core® foam

And the AS3 Hybrid has:

3 inches of Bio-Pur® foam
8 inches of pocketed coils
1 inch of stiff, supportive base foam

How many inches thick should a memory foam mattress be?

A memory foam mattress should be at least 10 inches thick. Mattresses this thick usually have a supportive base layer and a conforming layer at least. Many beds also have a transition layer that adds support or responsiveness to the mattress. Beds thinner than 10 inches tend to wear out quicker because they lack the extra material and added support features a thicker mattress has.

Can memory foam mattresses cause back pain?

Technically yes, but if your bed is causing back pain, it’s usually because you’re sleeping on the wrong firmness. Memory foam is heat and pressure sensitive, enabling it to mold to you for full-body support and pressure relief. A quality memory foam mattress that suits your sleeping style should ease pain instead of causing it.

If you’re a back or stomach sleeper suffering from back pain, we recommend a medium-firm or firm mattress, such as the AS1 or AS2. Side sleepers with back pain should consider our AS3 mattress, available as both a memory foam and hybrid mattress.

Are hard mattresses better for your back?

Some sleepers benefit more from a firm mattress then others. Stomach sleepers and select back sleepers can maintain a healthy spine alignment if they sleep on a firm bed. However, a side sleeper is likely to wake up with pain if they sleep on a hard bed.

Side sleepers benefit from soft mattresses that conform to their bodies for pressure relief. Otherwise, they usually experience sore shoulders, stiff hips, and a bad back in the morning.
