Why choose Bio-Pur®?

Bio-Pur® is the perfect answer to a better bed. Available in every Amerisleep mattress, we engineered Bio-Pur® to deliver cooling comfort, responsive support, and healthier sleep.

Memory foam lovers say Bio-Pur® is a huge upgrade, while critics admit it solves all the problems of traditional memory foam. Plus, we proudly manufacture Bio-Pur® in the USA.

Our plant-based Bio-Pur® is significantly more breathable and responsive than traditional memory foam. It snaps back to its original shape in seconds, so it’ll never cause you to uncomfortably sink, and it’s significantly more porous and airy, so you won’t have to worry about night sweats. Even better? Bio-Pur® contains a fraction of the petrochemicals used in other memory foams, so it’s less likely to off-gas and is completely free of harmful substances.

Bio-Pur® vs Traditional Memory Foam

Breathable & Cooling

Unlike the dense construction of traditional memory foam, Bio-Pur®'s large, open-cell structure has a few distinct advantages:

  • Allows air to flow freely
  • Prevents heat build-up
  • Perfect for hot sleepers

Responsive & Supportive

With traditional memory foam, the slow response time can feel like you're sleeping in quicksand. This leads to discomfort and poor spinal alignment. Here's how Bio-Pur® is different:

  • Contours to your body
  • Relieves painful pressure points
  • Provides cushioning and support
  • Bounces back in just seconds

Eco-Friendly Materials

While traditional memory foam is 100% petroleum-based, Bio-Pur® is partially made with renewable plant-based oils. This minimizes our reliance on non-renewable resources and ensures our products are better for you and the planet.

A Healthier Sleep

Many memory foams you see today use harsh chemicals such as benzene, formaldehyde, and more that can cause unpleasant off-gassing.

Bio-Pur®, on the other hand, is:

  • CertiPUR-US® certified
  • Low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • Naturally resistant to dust mites, mold, and mildew
  • Made without formaldehyde, ozone depleters, prohibited phthalates, PBDEs, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals

Decades of Durability

Most memory foams only last 7 to 10 years. Some deteriorate within 3 to 5 years. Longer lifespans are only available in higher-end memory foam.

We build our mattresses to last. With Bio-Pur®, you get:

  • An industry-leading 20-year warranty
  • Protection against indentations and sagging

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bio-Pur®?

Bio-Pur® is Amerisleep’s proprietary plant-based memory foam crafted to offer all the benefits of memory foam but with fewer drawbacks. Hot sleepers and sleepers over 230 pounds can sleep on our foam beds without any discomfort, something that can’t be said for many other memory foam mattresses. With its eco-friendly construction and enhanced breathability and responsiveness, our Bio-Pur® provides everything you need from memory foam for a better night’s rest.

Is Bio-Pur® safe?

Yes! Bio-Pur® is completely safe. Now, we should say, we do not recommend our mattresses (or any foam mattress) to children younger than 8 because memory foam can pose a suffocation risk. But in terms of harmful chemicals and unpleasant odors, our mattress is completely free of both.

How else does Amerisleep differentiate its mattresses?

In addition to Bio-Pur®, Amerisleep memory foam mattresses feature HIVE® (their exclusive zoned support technology) and Bio-Core® (their long-lasting and durable base). Amerisleep’s hybrid mattresses use hundreds of pocketed coils that provide additional bounce to your bed while minimizing motion transfer. Each Amerisleep mattress also comes with a 100-night sleep trial and their industry-leading 20-year warranty covering indentations and sagging beyond ¾ of an inch.

What is memory foam?

Since the 90s, memory foam has only gotten more and more popular. From seat cushions to couches and mattresses, memory foam is used in countless products to improve comfort.

Memory foam is a variation of poly-foam designed with viscoelastic properties—this foam responds to heat and pressure, so it molds to your body when you climb into bed and snaps back into shape when you get up. All memory foam is poly-foam, but not all poly-foam is memory foam.

Both poly-foam and memory foam are made from a combination of petrochemicals, and these chemicals are what give foam its “foam-like” consistency. Without petrochemicals, there is no foam. With that, though, many people complain of a chemical-like off-gassing smell from their foam mattress. While this scent does eventually go away, most people feel uneasy sleeping on a bed full of chemicals.

At Amerisleep, we knew there had to be a better way of doing things. That’s why we started producing our foams with a combination of petrochemicals and plant-based oils. We found that by replacing some of the petrochemicals with plant-based oils, you can produce a foam that offers all of the same benefits as memory foam with fewer drawbacks. The result is cool, contouring, and adaptable Bio-Pur®.

Why does memory foam have a chemical smell?

Memory foam has a chemical-like smell because it contains petrochemicals. Petrochemicals are used in a variety of products and people often describe their off-gassing scent as smelling “new” (think new cars, new paint, and even new clothes and books).

While off-gassing doesn’t pose a real threat to our health, it can be bothersome to some. Those who are sensitive to smells or prone to migraines may want to avoid their new mattress for a few days while it airs out. After a few days, your mattress should smell fresh and chemical-free. If not, you may want to contact the retailer and ask them for a replacement.

At Amerisleep, we designed Bio-Pur® to have minimal off-gassing, making it a healthier alternative to traditional memory foam.

What is plant-based memory foam?

Plant-based memory foam is similar to traditional memory foam, but it’s made with fewer petrochemicals and more plant-based oils. It’s an eco-friendly alternative for people that want a healthier sleep solution, as well as those who prefer to shop green. Plant-based memory foam, like Bio-Pur®, is naturally more breathable and responsive than traditional memory foam, so it minimizes the two big issues with memory foam (heat retention and uncomfortable sinkage). These eco-friendly foams are also less likely to off-gas than traditional foam mattresses.

Are plant-based foams safe?

Yes, plant-based memory foams like Bio-Pur® are considered safer than traditional foam because they contain fewer petroleum-based compounds.

Sleepers may also prefer plant-based foam because it doesn’t have a chemical-like smell. Although most traditional memory foams are safe, many people have concerns due to the chemical odor they emit. When you feel like you’re sleeping on a toxic mattress, it’s hard to get a peaceful, healthy sleep.
