Are high-quality queen size mattresses affordable?

Materials, warranties, brand names, and special technologies, including responsive foam, lumbar support, or pocketed coils determine the cost of a mattress.

The average price based on mattress type helps give a better idea of what you can expect to pay for a quality mattress and avoid marketing gimmicks of cheap, overpriced beds.

The perfect mattress will offer is both comfortable and supportive a balance of comfort and support, which varies depending on your sleeping position and possible health concerns. If you sleep hot, a mattress with cooling properties like plant-based foams, innerspring coils, or gel or copper-infused foams can help regulate temperature for a cooler sleep.

Mattress detail

Read about all of the features in a potential higher-priced mattress before buying—if the price doesn't reflect what the brand claims, move on.

Beware of cheap beds, too. Queen size mattresses less than $500 usually contain low-density foams and are more likely to break down within a year of purchase. You might save money at first, but you'll find yourself spending more to replace the bed. A high-quality mattress should last between 7 to 9 years, possibly longer.

If you're still not sure how much you should spend, take a look at the warranty. Mattress warranties outline what defects the company covers and how long it lasts. Most beds come with a standard 10-year warranty, but anything less than that could be a sign of a poorly-made mattress.

Are beds in a box high-quality?

Memory foam mattresses became popular because they conform closely to the body and feel soft and plush while still supporting the spine. Because of their pliability, they’re also perfect for bed in a box brands. The hallmark of these companies is the sleep trial, which allows you to try out your mattress for anywhere from 30-100 days. This way you can determine through personal experience if the bed is good quality and meets your sleep needs.

How do Amerisleep mattresses differ from traditional foam mattresses?

Innerspring mattresses used to be the only type of mattress you could buy, and they’re still one of the more popular types. However, they tend to sag quickly and lose support. The steel coil base in all innerspring beds allows for better airflow, something that memory foam mattresses struggle with. They need to be made with cooling foams to create air circulation and avoid trapping heat.

Innersprings usually have a quilted pillow or Euro top and edge support to give the mattress more structure, but this also leaves less surface area for the sleeper to stretch out on. Memory foam beds typically contain firm, polyfoam bases for that added boost of support.

See why our customers love to snooze and tell

I now know what good sleep feels like

The delivery was a breeze and the mattress didn't even need to off-gas, but it's the sound sleep provided that is the point of this review. I sleep on my back now and haven't in years. This mattress [AS2] is firm and supportive yet still soft and cozy and has provided the best sleep I've ever had. Thanks for making me excited about bed again!

Portland, OR

Insane back relief

I have suffered from disc issues in my back for the past 15 years. I have had daily pain for the past five years. My back and hip pain have been almost entirely eliminated within one month of sleeping on this mattress. It has improved my daily quality of life and is by far the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on.

West Hartford, CT

Be prepared for many great nights of sleep

After reading reviews and seeing that this was rated the best for chronic back pain I decided to give it a shot. It has done wonders for my back pain. I no longer wake up with back pain and I am able to fall asleep comfortably; two things I could never do with a spring mattress.

Kay the Hiker

Woodstock, VA

Extremely comfortable bed

This is the second Amerisleep bed I've bought and again I love it. I fall asleep quickly on this bed and feel well-rested when I wake up. I sleep in all positions and almost never wake up feeling tight. I have lower back issues and this bed really helps get me into those comfortable sleeping positions for a good night's sleep.

Best Mattress EVER!!!

I love this bed!! My back is very fussy and if the mattress is too soft or too hard I wake up with nerve pain. With Amerisleep I have not ever had a problem. This is our second mattress from Amerisleep. Great bed and super company!!

Santa Barbara, CA

Reduced our back pain dramatically

I'm a stomach and back sleeper and my husband is a side sleeper. I love that this bed works for both of us and has dramatically reduced back pain for both of us. I couldn't be more pleased with this company and our new bed.

Great Mattress

I was very leery about buying a mattress without experiencing it first hand, but after doing research and reading the reviews, I decided to try the Amerisleep AS3. It turned out to be very comfortable with the right amount of support: not too hard nor too soft.

Starkville, MS

Awesome Product

My wife and I bought this bed about 2 months ago, and so far we have no complaints! It's been extremely comfortable, and we've been sleeping better than ever. I change positions a lot when I sleep, and this bed is pretty comfortable in any position. Definitely better for back and side sleeping, but not bad for stomach sleeping either.

Taylorsville, UT

Best mattress I have ever owned

I have arthritis and suffered with knee and hip pain for years on other mattresses. I have had no pain with this mattress. Purchased it in July 2019 so it is not very old, but I love it. No break-in period needed. Comfortable straight out of the box!

Happy sleeper

East Lansing, MI

Great mattress!

I love my Amerisleep bed! The first week was a little difficult getting used to a new type of mattress, but after that, it was extremely comfortable and helped me fall asleep and stay sleeping more soundly. The AS3 works great for me as a combination sleeper.

Milwaukee, WI

Amerisleep for Life! No Mattress Compares!

This is an excellent bed that is not only comfortable but also keeps you cool and motionless due to its unique materials and make. It is comfortable for couples and for singles alike, so much so that we bought this model after leaving the AS2 model behind due to moving across country.

Matt the Sound Sleeper

San Francisco, CA

Love the mattress!

I slept well on the queen for years before we got the king size. Also, in case this helps anyone else make a decision, I've slept on this mattress pregnant and it's very, very comfortable (as pregnant people know you can only sleep on your side--having a mattress that doesn't create pressure points is very important).

Clarksville, TN

Very good mattress, as promised

This mattress is well made, comfortable and I like the environmental qualities of it. I've only had it for a couple of months so not sure if it is changing the soreness I have when I get out of bed but I sleep very well on it and I love the pillow! I have very bad arthritis and did not expect the mattress to cure it but I think it is helping.

Seattle, WA

Remarkably cool and comfortable

My husband and I really like and are beginning to love this mattress. At first, we weren't sure because of its firmness, but we have settled in and feel great after sleeping on it. We both like to "sink in" to our mattresses so it takes a bit getting used to this one. I think it's important to sleep on it for the 100 days. I rarely wake up with any back pain now!

Rutland, VT

I love this mattress!

This is the second Amerisleep I have purchased. I have had major back surgery and this mattress is amazing! It offers comfort and support without being hard or lumpy. I have recommended to many friends and family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dimensions of a queen size mattress?

Queen size mattresses measure approximately 60 inches wide and 80 inches long.

What is the best queen size mattress?

There is no one perfect mattress—the "best" mattress depends on a person's sleeping position, body weight, personal preferences, and possible medical conditions.

Is a queen size mattress big enough for two sleepers?

A queen size mattress is an okay option for couples, but a king or Cal king size mattress might be better for couples looking for more personal space or room to stretch.

How do I know which mattress firmness is best?

Mattress firmness depends on a person's body weight and preferred sleeping position. For example, a lightweight side sleeper feels most comfortable on a softer surface, while a plus-size stomach sleeper sleeps best on a firmer mattress.

What if my queen size mattress is too soft or too firm?

A mattress topper is a great solution for too soft or too firm mattresses. Mattress toppers alter the feel of the mattress surface, adding softness to hard beds and support to soft mattresses.

What does an Amerisleep queen size mattress cost?

An Amerisleep queen size mattress starts at $899 for the AS1, our firmest model and great for back and stomach sleepers.

How often should you replace your Amerisleep mattress?

Amerisleep mattresses are built to last at least 10 years or more. Each mattress comes with a 20-year warranty—one of the best in the industry.

What makes Amerisleep queen size mattresses different?

Each Amerisleep mattress contains a comfort layer of Bio-Pur® and a support layer of Bio-Core®. Bio-Pur® is a plant-based memory foam, breathable and more responsive than traditional memory foam. Bio-Core® is a durable base foam that evenly supports the body without risk of sagging.

How long is the Amerisleep sleep trial?

Amerisleep offers its customers a 100-night sleep trial with the purchase of a mattress. During the trial, if the customer isn't happy with the mattress, Amerisleep will arrange to pick up and return it before issuing a full refund.

Does an Amerisleep queen size mattress reduce back pain?

The Amerisleep AS2 mattress is our medium-firm model, a great choice for those with back pain. The thinner Bio-Pur® comfort layer cradles the hips, while HIVE® technology provides enhanced lumbar support.

Alternatives to Queen Mattresses

    Studio apartments, master bedroom

A full size bed is best for single sleepers who change sleeping positions throughout the night and those who co-sleep with a child or pet.
  • Cal King size mattress

    Cal King

    Extra large master bedrooms (10' x 12')

The California Kings provide an additional 4 inches in length, but are 4 inches thinner as well. They work well for extra large master bedrooms.
  • Split King size mattress

    Split King

    Master bedrooms, adjustable beds
